TrueWest Imports offers for sale is this very nice example of a first generation 1965 Plymouth Barracuda.
The Plymouth Barracuda is a two-door car that was manufactured by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation from the 1964 to 1974 model years.
The first-generation Barracuda, a fastback A-body coupe based on the Plymouth Valiant, had distinctive wraparound back glass and was available from 1964 to 1966.
Plymouth’s executives had wanted to name the car “Panda”, an idea that was (not surprisingly) unpopular with the car’s designer John Samsen. In the end, John Samsen’s suggestion of “Barracuda” was chosen.
The Barracuda used the Valliant’s 106 in (2,692 mm) wheelbase and the Valiant bonnet, headlamp bezels, windscreen, vent windows, quarter panels, doors, A-pillar, and bumpers; all other sheet metal and glass was new.
This hybrid design approach significantly reduced the development and tooling cost and time for the new model. The fastback body shape was achieved primarily with a giant back glass (“backlight”), which wrapped down to the fender line. Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) collaborated with Chrysler designers to produce this 14.4 ft² (1.33 m²) backlight, the largest ever installed on a standard production car to that time.
This 1965 Barracuda presents well in its Fire Engine Red paint. It has been repainted some time ago and still retains a very nice lustre.
It retains the factory original interior, consisting of Black Vinyl bucket seats. The condition of the interior is well above average.
Power is provided by the original 273 LA V8, 235 hp (175kW) V8 Commando, 4 bbl engine, which has never been disassembled, coupled with an automatic transmission.
The Barracuda has power steering the original radio (not working) and every other feature and accessory is in working order, horn, wipers, heater/defroster, etc.
The set of Cragar Mags sets it off very nicely.
This car takes 91 or 95 RON Petrol.
