TrueWest Imports is very proud to offer for sale this 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner which is truly one of the very best to be found.

This beautiful vehicle underwent a 5 year frame off rotisserie restoration and has travelled a mere 50 miles (80.5 km) since completion.

In 1960, the Ford Galaxie was all new having acquired completely new body lines, twin headlights and half-moon shaped rear lights. The large, imposing Galaxie was very sleek and futuristic for 1960 and the model and various versions were considered top of the line.

It is said to be the widest car Ford had ever produced and is probably the widest passenger car ever sold in America (not including commercial vehicles marketed as passenger vehicles like the Hummer). It was half an inch wider than the gargantuan 1959 Cadillac and so you can understand that this is a very big, big car.

The one year only design is totally different to earlier and later Ford models and its long, flowing body and full length fins along with a relatively short production period have contributed to this being an exceptionally rare and sought after car.

TrueWest Imports believe that only 44,000 Sunliner Convertibles were produced and it is this model that is regarded the best looking Galaxie of 1960 with all the lines converging to make it look long, low and very attractive.

Beginning with a clean NO RUST body, this Sunliner Convertible underwent a 5-year frame-off nut and bolt rotisserie restoration that was done with extreme attention to detail. All stainless trim and chrome pieces were replaced with new components. The body panels are laser straight and all panel gaps are uniform (unlike the “original”). The “Monte Carlo Red” finish is flawless. The custom convertible top is crafted using Haartz Stayfast® #848 Black, which is a premium line of 3-ply toppings, constructed of acrylic square weave facing, rubber inner-layer, and cotton backing.

As can be expected from a full restoration, this car has an all new interior with black carpet and stunning red, white, and black vinyl on the seating surfaces, doors, and kick panels. All interior metal surfaces are finished in matching Monte Carlo Red. The reconditioned instrument panel is flawless in appearance and functionality. As expected, all gauges, instruments, lamps, etc. are fully operating condition. A high-end Alpine AM FM CD Stereo unit compliments the interior and is neatly housed in the glove box.

Engine and Driveline

The engine is a new Ford 438 FE, based on a 390 cu. in. stroker assembly, rated at 500 hp (373kW) with 500 lbs-ft (677 Nm) of torque. It features Edelbrock aluminium heads, dual 4-barrel carbs, “old school” finned aluminium valve covers, and ceramic coated extractors (headers). A new C-6 transmission and stock rear end with a 3.56:1 ratio bring up the rear. The engine bay is very nicely detailed with just the right amount of chrome. The complete undercarriage, including front and rear suspension, and exhaust system of this Sunliner is as clean and sanitary as the topside of the car.

Wheels and Tires

New Polished REV “Classic 100″ 15 x 8” wheels ride on new radial tyres on the front and back.

As one of the nicest restored 1960 Sunliners around, this example is guaranteed to exceed your expectations.
